Ms. Ji Yu opened on May 10, 1999 the Shilla Bakery. The bakery
is very different from what most people in the Washington, DC metropolitan area
have experienced. It is a Korean Bread-style Bakery.
Shilla Bakery bread baking is butter cream and not sugar based. This style of
baking produces more healthy bread that is not quite as sweet. Everything is
made here. Breads are freshly prepared daily in their ovens. They can make your
birthday, wedding, or any occasion cake to your taste.
Already very popular are the chestnut bread, sponge cakes, and pork and
vegetable turnovers. Soon you will be able to bring your friend and enjoy a new
tasty trend. First find your favorite picture of your guest. Take it to Shilla
Bakery. Select their favorite cake. Place your order. Arrange your rendezvous.
Sit down together and eat your delicious photo-cake.

As we all know now, breads are good for us. Shilla Bakery prepares special
breads that will compliment your nutritional needs.
- If you are a meat lover you may want special bread with pumpkinseeds
and/or walnuts.
- If you are a vegetarian you may want special bread with peanuts and/or
pumpkinseeds.
- If you are balanced between meat and vegetables you may want special bread
with oat or rice bran.
- If you don’t care about either meat or vegetables you may want special
bread with chestnuts or walnuts.
When you visit Shilla Bakery ask for "han-gwa". Most of these light and
crispy traditional sweets and cookies are made of rice flour mixed with
honey. Like rice cakes, they were served at ancestor
worship ceremonies and on other special days.
